she shot me down, bang bang...

It was near May twenty six

We knit socks on pointy sticks

Lovely peds of blue and white

Is how Ms. Delle won the fight

Bang Bang

She shot me down, Bang Bang.

I hit the ground, Bang Bang.

Warm cozy feet I've found, Bang Bang

Ms. Delle shot me down.

So Sock Wars has ended for me. Frankly, I'm grateful. Not because it was a bad experience (If you've been reading Ravelry or the boards, you might know that lots of people had lots of nasty and negative things to say about it, which was truly unfortunate and made the game miserable for more people than they realize, but I really enjoyed it! That's not to say there weren't some issues, but there are ways to address things publicly and ways to not address things publicly... It was sad and disappointing to see what my once beloved international 'family' of fiber crafters were capable of... sigh...) I just came off of stressful knitting and more stressful knitting and was going to skip Sock Wars for that reason, but then the newspaper article mentioning it made me feel like I had to, so I did.

I received my GORGEOUS Tofutsies socks from Delle in the UK on late Saturday. I absolutely LOVE them and they fit BEAUTIFULLY and are SO SOFT!!!! AND they're blue! I love blue!!! I really lucked out!!!! I was just a few inches away from finishing my second sock, so I contacted Delle to see if she would mind if I just finished it up since we had no mail on Monday for Memorial Day and she said she didn't mind at all, so I went ahead and sent out Brandee's socks. Now we get to root for my second UK assassin in this installment of SW since she is still alive!!! GO DELLE!!!!! I forgot to take a pic of the full pair, but here is the first one anyway.

Well I have ONE MORE stress knitting project to do, so I must depart without posting significantly or catching up on blogs YET AGAIN. (sigh) SOON I PROMISE! Miss you all and hope all is well!!!!

Sock Wars - a note to my assassin (danielle)

hey, killer!

you didn't leave me a way to respond to you and there's no e-mail link on your blogger profile and couldn't find you in the SW database. anyway, i am a US 11 men's, but that wasn't an option, so i went with 10-1/2 because it matched my German and UK sizes. That would be a woman's 12.

knit slowly! ;-)

the first rule of socks wars....

is to talk about sock wars! the second rule of sock wars... is to talk about sock wars!!!!

still insanely busy really, but wanted to say that i got my yarn swatched for the upcoming SWII. Will be using Bearfoot by Mountain Colors, getting excited AND through the Ravelry board, I accidentally found a much better link to my article with the full picture instead of the cut one. I NEVER say this, so someone mark your calendar, but I actually like this picture of me. My hair is a little iffy, but I don't look like a cow. :) the other bonus is TBT is a daily paper so the other link will likely expire come tomorrow. anyway, here you go!

update and catch up with everyone soon, promise!

it's official!

well, thanks to the article in the tbt*, I felt like I kinda had to sign up for sock wars, and so indeed I did! Go sign up, it's the very last day!!!! HURRY!

i managed to suck beff into it while i was at it to, so it will be worth it. ;-) i love tofutsies, but have to knit it on a US 0, so I don't foresee I'll be using it for SW III, thinking Bearfoot or the delicious alpaca blend I have, but we will see!

Look out, warriors! Killer KBLicious is on the prowl! ;-)

i'm published!!!! (in the newspaper :-D)

ok, i know i've been MIA (again) for a while, but i am working frantically on getting the last designs in for the book. today was the deadline and i missed it, but thankfully i have a wonderful and supportive editor and someone else is running behind so i have one last shot to get them in, so i will be MIA yet again for another few days, but wanted to post that i was published in the newspaper! it's not really copy-and-paste-able and i couldn't find a way to link it either, so i did the best i can. if you want to see the original, go here and on the right, scroll down the table of contents to TO51 (Knitting? That's a man's game) and you can see it there too.

It was super fun, although I was really nervous, but both the reporter, Dalia, and the Times photographer, Luis, were both super nice and I had a great time. Dalia is also scheduled for some knitting classes at Jo-Ann! WOOT! :) a big thanks to Chris at ThreeDogKnits for hooking me up with the opportunity! xoxoxox

Knitting? That’s a man’s game

“Extreme knitting” sounds like an oxymoron, but next week more than 1,000 crafters worldwide will cast on in a life-or-death frenzy.

Saturday is the deadline to sign up for third annual Sock Wars, a game in which knitters “kill” their targets by mailing them a pair of handmade socks. A Belfast, Northern Ireland, woman organizes the contest, which starts May 9 and continues until one knitter remains “alive.” Everyone ends up with socks from a stranger, and the winner gets $500 worth of yarn from South West Trading Company. Sign up for $2 at sock-wars.com.

Although knitting is still predominantly associated with chicks like Julia Roberts and your grandmother, books such as The Knitting Man(ual) and Knitting with Balls make the craft accessible to guys. Sean Higgins participated in the 2006 Sock Wars and is gearing up for this year’s competition. Higgins, 30, of Seminole, teaches at Needles and Knobs on Central Avenue in St. Pete and has a knitting blog, boyforpele13.blogspot.com. He chatted with tbt*.

What about knitting can appeal to a guy?

It’s funny you say that, because it gives me an opportunity to tell people it was our craft first. You (women) kinda took it from us. In the 1400s, the very first knitting guild was actually created by men, and women weren’t allowed. ... I love making gifts for people, and everybody appreciates handmade gifts. It’s just relaxing.

What are some Florida-friendly knitting projects?
Everybody I know gets clogs. Even though they are wool, I wear them year-round. You have the air conditioning on nine months out of the year. You could really use them. And they’re great on tile floors.

Is there a difference in knitting personalities between men and women?
I’ve actually read some articles about that. They feel that men are more mathematical about it. They say a lot of male knitters are often engineers.

I dragged my husband to the craft store the other day. The check-out lady said, “Real men knit.”
You can knit while watching football. It’s a perfect thing to do, really. Keeps your hands busy. ... And it’s a turn-on for women, too. A hand-knit gift from your boyfriend? C’mon, it doesn’t get any better than that.
